Photobiological Safety for UV LED Nail Lamps
Nail lamps rely mainly on the UVA band (340–405 nm) to cure gel polish. Most mainstream products on the market have a power range of 48W to 168W.Generally, higher power means stronger UVA radiation intensity,so photobiological safety risks must be strictly controlled.
Therefore, photobiological safety testing is a core mandatory itemfor market launch, e-commerce platform access, and export of nail lamps.Through professional test data, the hazards of ultraviolet radiation to human eyes and skincan be accurately evaluated, and the product risk level clearly defined, providing a critical basis for compliant production and market access.
Three Core Testing Standards
- IEC 62471:2006 (International general standard)
- EN 62471:2008 (Applicable to the EU market)
- GB/T 20145-2006 (Chinese national standard)
According to these standards, nail lamps are classified into four risk groups:
- RG0 (Exempt): No risk; basically no protection required.
- RG1 (Group 1 Risk): Low risk; extremely safe under normal use —the mainstream compliant requirement for global markets.
- RG2 (Group 2 Risk): Moderate risk; requires restricted usage time and method.
- RG3 (Group 3 Risk): High risk; significant safety hazards.
Basic Testing Requirements
- Samples: 2–3 complete finished products consistent with mass production, with clear nameplate information (model, power, manufacturer, etc.)and original power accessories.
- Lead Time: Normally 7 working days.If rectification and retesting are needed, the timeline will be extended accordingly.
- Documents: Product specification, detailed nameplate information, preliminary user manual.
Market Trend
Competition in the nail lamp market has shifted from cost performance to compliance and safety. As a core compliance indicator, photobiological safety cannot be ignored.
Although there are no mandatory regulations in China at present, market supervision and platform requirements are becoming increasingly strict.Completing professional testing and certification in advancecan effectively avoid potential regulatory risks, improve brand reputation, and help enterprises gain a competitive advantage in industry restructuring.
